" ___ し、___ "

The Japanese grammar pattern "___ し、___" is a conjunction used to connect two or more reasons, actions, or events in a single sentence. It is often employed to express multiple aspects or reasons related to a situation. 

Examples :

彼　は　背が　高い　し、　わかい　です。

He is tall and young.

彼女　は　あたまが　いい　し、　かわいい　です。

She is intelligent (smart) and cute.

Practice Conversation 1 :

H: あ、昨日、新しいカフェに行ったよ！

K: 本当に？なんで行ったの？

H: まず、コーヒーがおいしいし、雰囲気も素敵だったよ！

K: それだけじゃなくて？

H: いやいや、それだけじゃないよ！店員さんも親切で、価格も手ごろだったし、友達とゆっくり話すのに最適だった！

Examples :

彼は 足が 速い し、力もある。

(Kare wa ashi ga hayai shi, chikara mo aru.)

He is fast and strong.

彼女は 歌が 上手い し、楽器も弾ける。

(Kanojo wa uta ga umai shi, gakki mo hikeru.)

She is good at singing and can also play musical instruments.

彼は 背が 高い し、スポーツも 得意だ し、優しいです。

(Kare wa se ga takai shi, supōtsu mo tokui da shi, yasashii desu.)

He is tall, good at sports, and kind.

Practice Conversation 2 :

Aiko: あ、昨日、新しいカフェに行ったよ！

Aiko: A, kinou, atarashii kafe ni itta yo!

Aiko: Oh, I went to a new cafe yesterday!

Ken: 本当に？なんで行ったの？

Ken: Hontou ni? Nande itta no?

Ken: Really? Why did you go?

Aiko: まず、コーヒーがおいしいし、雰囲気も素敵だったよ！

Aiko: Mazu, koohii ga oishii shi, fun'iki mo suteki datta yo!

Aiko: Firstly, the coffee was delicious, and secondly, the atmosphere was wonderful!)

Ken: それだけじゃなくて？

Ken: Sore dake ja nai ka?

Ken: Is that all?

Aiko: いやいや、それだけじゃないよ！店員さんも親切で、価格も手ごろだったし、友達とゆっくり話すのに最適だった！

Aiko: Iya iya, sore dake ja nai yo! Ten'in-san mo shinsetsu de, kakaku mo tegorode tatta shi, tomodachi to yukkuri hanasu no ni saiteki datta!

Aiko: No, no, not just that! The staff was friendly, the prices were reasonable, and it was perfect for chatting with friends!

Ken: すごいね！行きたいなあ。

Ken: Sugoi ne! Ikitai naa.

Ken: Wow, that sounds great! I want to go.

Aiko: ぜひ行ってみて！美味しいものがたくさんあるし、リラックスできるよ！

Aiko: Zehi itte mite! Oishii mono ga takusan aru shi, rirakkusu dekiru yo!

Aiko: Definitely give it a try! There's lots of delicious stuff, and you can relax too!

Ken: わかった、ありがとう！

Ken: Wakatta, arigatou!

Ken: Got it, thanks!
